Kalamazoo County Commissioners approve The Mill Transformational Brownfield Plan
The long struggle to turn the old Vicksburg Paper Mill from what one developer described as an eyesore, into a vital commercial and entertainment destination continues.
Kalamazoo County Commissioners approved a Transformational Brownfield Plan for the $60-million project after a public hearing last night. They hope to put a hotel, a brewpub, offices, commercial space and a concert venue at the site.
Jackie Koney, with Paper City Development says this gets them another step closer.
A Transformational Brownfield Plan is a special designation reserved for major projects that are designed to have a significant impact on a local economy.
The plan now goes to the Michigan Strategic Fund for their review and if approved, it could mean an additional state support. They hope to find out this summer.
