We’ve been making great progress on construction at The Mill and “Hill’s Buildings”! Take a look at our most recent updates.
The Mill Building 7
We’ve had heavy construction taking place on our building 7 roof. The photo below captures the extent of work the Frederick Construction team has completed with the concrete roof plank removal and lesser visible work on the perimeter.
Each section of glass block that lines the top-of-wall connections to the roof has been evaluated for its condition and either repaired or replaced. This often included not just the glass block but the supporting steel and sections of the masonry wall in need of greater rehabilitation.
In early November 2024, we will begin installation of the new steel decking.
“Hill’s Building” Restoration
Our rehabilitation efforts on the historic façades of our downtown “Hill’s Buildings” have seen great progress.
- The arched openings of the 110 S. Main façade are now evident for the first time in over a century.
- Three arched display windows frame an arched vestibule
- Arches will have a painted mahogany trim to replicate the original 1800s design
Focus will now shift to the interior build-out of the 110 S. Main storefront to align with the arched framing shown on the exterior.
Additionally, the west elevation is now free of scaffolding. The masons have transformed this elevation with much-needed brick restoration and replacement—especially in areas previously covered by the non-historic building extensions that have been removed. Soils are soft with clay where the low, one-story building sections once stood. Our engineers have been focused on site improvements ahead of further construction in this area where stabilization of the soil is necessary to support future building elements.
