Restoring the Historic Balcony to 108 S Main
Our downtown rehabilitation efforts at the historic Hill’s Buildings are now singing in the details. A unique feature of 108 S. Main is the ornate balcony that was part of the original façade, accessed through gracious glass doors. This balcony was only visible in historic photos and has now been recreated in careful detail.

“A unique opportunity in the restoration of the Hills 108 S. Main St. building is the reconstruction of a key component of the building’s historic significance: the second-floor balcony. The cantilevered wood timbers support a steel platform with a decorative cast iron balustrade, similar to the iconic “Spanish Colonial” style ironwork balconies found in New Orlean’s French Quarter. The balcony is a wonderful amenity for the users of the second-floor event space to have the ability of stepping outside to engage with Vicksburg’s historic downtown Main Street.”

Adding in Windows
The ground floor storefront elements at 108 S. Main are being fitted with the wood-framed windows that are larger-than-life in scale. This Sapele Mahogany window system has been built stick-by-stick as each window is a custom size and configuration. These will be painted in the various historic colors that can be seen in the artist rendering showing the view of Main Street.

Interior Efforts Continue
Our interior efforts on all three “Hill’s Buildings” are truly transformative. The ground floor spaces have been returned to their historic interior, exposing walls and ceilings, as we reinforce each building with structural steel beams and expanded masonry columns to align with contemporary use.
