The Mill Completes First Internship Program
Evana Dias, The Mill’s first intern, recently wrapped up her time with us in Vicksburg. She spent the last few months as part of the team, learning about our initiatives and helping push us forward. As a talented creative, she assisted in a handful of Mill projects, including:
- Decorating this past year's Christmas float
- Creating the lotus flower mural behind the former Hill's Pharmacy building
- Painting our selfie station
- Planning the launch of Mackenzies Bakery
- Choosing the fire door to be repurposed in Mackenzies Bakery
We had a quick chat with Evana to reflect on her experience at The Mill before she headed home to Cincinnati.
Q&A with Evana Dias
How would you describe your time at The Mill?
I would describe my time at the mill as very eye-opening. It was my first time far away from home and my family, and I learned a lot about self-sufficiency, work ethic and myself. It was amazing to work with so many different people on so many different angles of The Mill project, and I felt very valued. I always knew that the work I was doing was actually making a difference.
What was your favorite part about your internship?
Without a doubt, my favorite part of this internship was the people I worked with. Everyone was incredibly warm, welcoming and a lot of fun to work with. A lot of the time, it didn't even feel like I was doing work!
What’s next for you?
I just started an apprenticeship at a high-end tattoo studio in Cincinnati called Queen Ink. I'm going to be drawing, practicing and learning the ins and outs of the trade, and should be a full-time artist within a year. I'm very excited about this opportunity, and I feel like my time in Vicksburg prepared me to take this leap into my future.
