THE MILL’S VIRTUAL MUSIC RESIDENCY 2021 KICKOFF

We created The Mill at Vicksburg’s Virtual Music Residency last year to help artists who were struggling during the pandemic without the ability to perform and earn a living. The residency provides artists with a way to share their gifts and perform for our community, while also getting paid! We’re kicking off the program again for 2021 and have a great roster of artists lined up for February.

MEET THE ARTISTS

Jason McCue is an indie-folk artist based out of Seattle, Washington. When he’s not working his day job, Jason spends the majority of his free time writing songs on his computer. Pre-pandemic, Jason could be found sharing his love of music across the country playing in dark, smoky bars and lively music halls. Today, Jason fills his time outside of writing with a lot of Legend of Zelda and baking sourdough.

Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Andrew Vait is known as Little Wins. From 2014-2017 as part of a Seattle-based powerhouse duo named SISTERS, he played main stages at Sasquatch! Music Festival, Capitol Hill Block Party and NYC Pride, and even had a song in a Toyota ad campaign. Considering his complicity in systems of oppression as a white male in the music industry, Vait takes major influence from POC artists to honor black artists who have shaped modern music culture. Armed with his MacBook Air, MIDI controller and Shure SM7b, he turned Garageband inside-out to produce his first two singles. “Let Me Into Your Heart” premiered on KEXP in 2018.

Minneapolis-based percussionist and national composer Zack Baltich creates long-form, emotionally driven music with a variety of instruments to meld the obscure with the familiar. His aesthetic and artistic purpose is to connect with others to inspire curiosity, satisfaction and empathy. Zack is intertwined with the Midwest land and people as both performer/audience and writer recorder. Whether collaborating with poets or recording sound bouncing off of cave walls in Minnesota, he continues to find inspiration in the border between urban and rural settings. His work has been supported by the American Composers Forum, Cedar Cultural Center and Minnesota State Arts Board.
